Guru Yellow is a great hardwax for fresh snow around zero when the temperature is falling, 1°C to -2°C. Ingredients include tar to make it smooth, sliver (aluminum) additive for softness, and some klister to make it bite. These additives keep your grip zone from snowballing in these tricky conditions.
Guru Red is a popular race option for transforming conditions. It is a fast kick wax in common but tricky conditions around freezing, 0°C to -4°C. Guru Red is solidly reliable where other waxes ice up, or are slippery.
Guru Violet isn't your standard violet. It is hardwax for prime conditions when the snow is silky smooth, fresh, and not too cold, -1°C to -6°C. You could use it on regular violet conditions with a binder, but Extreme Hallgeir will be your better option with It's durability. The Violet will still give great grip, glide, and release in It's respective conditions.
Guru Blue Special is a softer blue with silver and tar additives for the best anti-icing properties on offer from a grip wax. For temperatures from -1°C to -8°C, it can be a big problem in humid, fresh snow conditions to find a wax that won't ice up and give you grip at the same time. The wax has to be soft enough to get grip against the humid snowpack, and at the same time, the sharp new-snow crystals easily get stuck in a softer wax - causing a literal snowball effect of icing under your foot. The Silver and Tar additives smooth out the grip wax and repel moisture so snowballs are less likely to form. This wax is fantastic if the ski trails have varying levels of moisture from one spot to another.
Guru Blue truly shines in fresh to transforming snow in the -4°C to -10°C. It sure is a joy when the weather lets you have the snow conditions this wax. You will find yourself reaching for this wax, more often than other blues in your wax box. Still hard enough to use as a cover/mix for speeding up some stickier waxes. If it is a bit more mild, or the conditions are changing, use the Blue Special instead.
Guru Green (actual colour is black) can be used in many ways: alone in cold snow, mixed with other waxes to speed them up, or as a binder. When using as a grip, use in -6°C to -20°C (or colder if you're brave enough to ski then). It is best used in fresh snow, but will work great in aggressive snow if you use some heat to work it on the base. Apply with cork, or use an iron/heat gun to increase the durability of this as a binder. During my race warm up, I always try to have a tin of this with me in case I need to speed up my kick wax.
The Hallgeir waxes from Guru are among their most popular! The Extreme Hallgier, a warmer version of Hallgeir Super, is for aggressive and man-made snow in mild conditions, -2°C to -10°C. If you have fresher snow in that temperature range, throw on the Blue Special for less snowballing. The Extreme Hallgeir fights through coarse snow that would wear off a lesser wax. You can use it alone, as a light binder, or with an even tackier binder for long distance.
The Hallgeir waxes from Guru are among their most popular! The Super Hallgier, a colder version of Extreme Hallgeir, is for aggressive and man-made snow in mild conditions, -3°C to -15°C. If you have fresher snow in that temperature range, throw on the Blue, Blue Special, or Green for less snowballing. The Super Hallgeir fights through coarse snow that would wear off a lesser wax. You can use it alone, as a light binder, or with an even tackier binder for long distance.
The Guru Base Binder is for outings or races longer than 15km. Apply with cork, or use an iron/heat gun to increase the durability of this binder. This base binder is much, much, much better than most other base binders on the market, so I recommend this one to everyone - recreational skiers and racers.
